Atletico Madrid reportedly turned down a bid from Barcelona to get Joao Felix on loan as the transfer window draws to a close today.

Barca have been financially struggling throughout the summer window, and were unable to offer Lionel Messi a new contract, which led to him joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free earlier this month.

Ronald Koeman's side made an offer for the player through agent Jorge Mendes, according to Goal, but Atletico don't need to sell, and would not consider letting Felix leave, much less 24 hours before the transfer window shuts.

The report adds that the LaLiga champions will inform Mendes and Barcelona that the 21-year-old is not for sale as they look to win the league title for a second straight season. Felix has been a regular under Diego Simeone, scoring 13 goals in 58 LaLiga appearances.

Barca, meanwhile, have struggled to make additions to their squad, with Koeman admitting that his side could not hope to compete with other top clubs for signings until the money returns.

"I understand what people who love this club can feel, but the economic situation is what it is," the Barcelona boss said. "It's frustrating, but you have to be realistic. Economically we can't compete with Paris, City or United. That's right and we have to accept it."
