Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has refused to rule out the possibility of a swap deal between them and FC Barcelona which would see Antoine Griezmann return to the club and Saul Niguez join the Catalan outfit.
Barcelona are desperately trying to slash the wages in order to balance the books and register new players, including Lionel Messi who became a free agent after his contract with the club expired at the end of June. Among players Barcelona could offload this summer is Griezmann, who has not been able to live up to the expectations since joining Blaugrana from Atletico in 2019. Meanwhile, Niguez has fallen down the pecking order under Diego Simeone and has been linked with an exit.
Cerezo insisted he has not 'the slightest idea' regarding Griezmann-Niguez swap deal, but refused to rule out such a move this summer.
"Specifically [regarding] the Griezmann case I have not the slightest idea," Cerezo said, as quoted by Marca. "In the world of football everything is possible."
Meanwhile, Cerezo also insisted Joao Felix will remain at the club. He said: "Joao Felix is an Atletico Madrid player, he has a long-term contract and will [continue to] be an Atletico Madrid player."
