ATK Mohun Bagan have parted ways with coach Antonio Lopez Habas on mutual consent, the club confirmed on Saturday. Habas, a two-time ISL champion, leaves ATKMB after a mixed start to the new season.
ATKMB, who finished last season as runners-up, began their Indian Super League Season 8 campaign with a thumping 4-2 win over Kerala Blasters. But the Mariners could only pick five points from their subsequent five fixtures, winning one, losing two and drawing two. With eight points from six fixtures, ATK Mohun Bagan currently at sixth in the ISL points table.
Confirming the release of Habas, ATKMB said in a statement: "ATKMB has released Antonio Habas as the Head Coach for ATK Mohun Bagan."
Habas leaves ATKMB as the most successful coach in the Indian Super League history, having won the coveted league title twice. Under his tutelage, the Mariners came close to securing their fourth title, but were beaten by eventual winners Mumbai City FC in the final.
Meanwhile, Manuel Cascallana, who is currently the assistant coach, has been placed on interim charge of the team.
