ATK Mohun Bagan inflicted a 1-0 defeat on arch-rivals Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League Season 7 opener as the defending champions got their campaign off to a winning start.

In a game where both teams struggled to create too many chances, it was a Roy Krishna strike in the 67th minute of the match that separated the two sides and earned ATKMB three crucial points.

The first chance of the game fell to Roy Krishna after he had been found inside the box from a Javi Hernandez corner in the 4th minute, but the Fijian international could not make the contact he would have hoped for.

Carl McHugh, who scored the first goal of the ISL Season 6, came close to registering the first of the seventh campaign, but his header from a Javi Hernandez corner in the 26th minute did not find the target.

ATKMB had another opportunity to draw first blood in the 34th minute, but Roy Krishna's strike from outside the box flew over the bar.

Both teams went to the break goalless, and in the second half, Roy Krishna broke the deadlock and put ATKMB ahead in the game. A misunderstanding between two Blasters players while clearing an ATKMB cross into the box saw the ball drop into space for Roy Krishna to thump a first-time left-footed volley past Albino Gomez.

After the conceding the goal, Blasters intensified their attack in search of an equaliser, but ATKMB held strong and denied Kibu Vicuna's men a way back into the game.
