Arsenal are reportedly set to offer defender, David Luiz a one-year contract extension with Independent reporting that Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta values the Brazilian's leadership qualities both on and off the pitch.

Luiz's current deal with Arsenal expires at the end of the season and despite being 33-years-old the club management have been impressed by how he has helped a number of younger players settle into the first-team squad.

The Brazilian has been criticised by a number of fans for his tendency to make mistakes at times, though he has also put in some impressive performances and despite competition for places at centre-back, he firmly remains in Arteta's plans.

The likes of Rob Holding and Gabriel have been regulars at the back, with Arteta also able to call upon Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers, while William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos are set to return from loan spells ahead of next season.

Luiz has still managed to make 15 appearances in the Premier League this season, with the defender making a total of 64 appearances in all competitions since joining the north London outfit from Chelsea in 2019.

The player for his part has expressed a desire to remain at Arsenal, though it will be interesting to see if he agrees to a one-year extension considering that he is not getting any younger.
