It was late drama at Fatorda Stadium as Adam le Fondre scored from the spot in the fifth minute of the additional time to seal a 1-0 win for Mumbai City FC over FC Goa, who were reduced to 10 men after Redeem Tlang had been sent off in the 40th minute, in the Indian Super League.

Goa came into the game after their impressive performance against Bengaluru FC, where they fought back from two goals down to earn a point. Meanwhile, Mumbai City entered the game looking to collect their first points after they had been beaten by Northeast United in their first game.

In the initial stages of the game, both teams fought the contest evenly. But, it was Goa who saw more of the ball. However, they were handed a massive blow when the referee shown red card to Redeem Tlang for a dangerous tackle on Santana.

Despite being a man down, FC Goa forced a string good saves from ,Mumbai City goalkeeper Amrinder Singh in the second half. In the 55th minute, Edu Garcia's long-range attempt was thwarted saved by the India international. Ivan Gonzalez had a shot on goal from the resulting corner, but Amrinder again was up to the task.

Mumbai came close to breaking the deadlock in the 75th minute, but Mandar Rao Desai could not make the right contact needed to slot the ball into the net after a cross by le Fondre had found him inside the six-yard box.

Mumbai continued their search for a goal on the night, and when it seemed Goa might manage to hold on for few minutes, the referee awarded a penalty against the Gaurs after Lenny Rodriguez had handed the ball inside the box. For Mumbai, le Fondre stepped up and hit a powerful strike into the bottom right corner, and sealed the victory for the Islanders.
