Manchester United were interested in signing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi but couldn’t end up completing the deal as neither the player nor his club were interested in a move in January.
The Red Devils, as a result, completed the signing of Odion Ighalo on loan but the Nigerian wasn’t the first choice for the Old Trafford outfit. Indeed, the Red Devils wanted to bring former player Joshua King but failed with that endeavour as well.
Speaking of the interest in his client, Muriqi’s agent Canatar said that while he is honoured to have so many top players looking at Muriqi, there was simply no way he could leave in the January transfer market.
“Muriqi has a four-year contract agreement with Fenerbahce, we are of course delighted that some of the top clubs in Europe are interested in Muriqi and scouting him," he was quoted by Lancs Live.
“But we are not considering a transfer in January there is a zero percent chance he leaves.
“We have been contacted by interested clubs I left these matters with Damien Comolli [ex-sporting director] and now with Selahattin Baki.”
Burnley were also said to be interested in Muriqi, who is said to be worth €28million, but nothing concrete came of it as they weren’t going to invest so much money on a player who is yet to prove himself at the top level on a consistent basis.
