Clement Lenglet has revealed that he has been left awestruck with Lionel Messi's influence both on and off the field at Barcelona.

The 23-year-old centre-back who joined the Catalan giants this summer believes that Messi is a great captain as he is an inspiration for the whole team on the pitch and a wonderful person off it.

Ahead of Barcelona's Champions League clash against Tottenham, former Sevilla defender Lenglet spoke about Messi to France Football and said, "He (Messi) is a leader on the pitch with his extraordinary qualities, but also off the pitch with his experience and his speeches."

He continued, "He (Messi) does not express himself often, but when he does so, everyone listens to him. He's always relevant and his [words] resonate with you."

Despite this deserved praise for the Argentinian hero, Barcelona have struggled this season. They have now played three successive La Liga games without a win. In the last of those three games which was played last Saturday against Athletic Bilbao, Messi was on the bench for most part of the game.

However, when the Catalonians trailed by a goal, Messi was introduced by Ernesto Valverde and the magician saved Barcelona from insult as he assisted Munir El Haddadi for a late Barcelona equaliser.
