5 Key Players for ATK in Season 5 of the Indian Super League

Two time champions ATK will enter the new Indian Super League season with an objective to wipe out last campaign's dismal performance from memory.

Under new coach Steve Coppell, the Kolkata based side will hope to replicate the performances they came up with in their championship-winning 2016 season.

In order for that to happen, ATK will require these five players to perform to the best of their capabilities....

5. Manuel Lanzarote

ATK signed 34-year-old Manuel Lanzarote after he managed to score 13 goals and assist another six in 19 appearances for FC Goa last season.

The Spanish winger will definitely be one of the most exciting players at ATK this season. He will be keen to deliver some big performances for his team as they aim to bid for their third Indian Super League title.

4. John Johnson

English centre-back John Johnson will be playing in his sixth consecutive season in Indian football this season.

He previously spent five years with Bengaluru FC, featuring in 126 games for them before being roped in by ATK for the new season.

The former Northampton Town defender will have to be extremely critical to the Kolkata-based side's chances of being successful this season.

3. Debjit Majumder

After starring in 12 appearances for ATK in their Indian Super League triumph in 2016, Debjit  Majumder was retained by the-then champions.

However, high expectations turned into pressure and the goalkeeper had to endure a disappointing 2017 season in the league.

The goalkeeper played 12 games for ATK last season and made 33 saves in total. Debjit conceded 17 goals, that is 1.42 goals conceded on average per game.

A lot is expected out of the 30-year-old goalkeeper and he will hope to deliver his best in order to lead his team to ISL glory this season.

2. Kalu Uche

After an impressive 13-goal stint for Delhi Dynamos last season in the ISL, Kolkata acted promptly to sign Uche for this season.

The Nigerian striker has scored a total of 17 ISL goals for Delhi and Pune combined, which is a sign of his experience in Indian conditions.

Uche will be crucial to Coppell's plans for at least the first half of the new season.

1. Balwant Singh

Balwant Singh arrived at ATK this season after a decent spell with fellow Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC in last year's tournament.

The 31-year-old striker scored six goals and provided one assist in 16 games for the Islanders. Balwant's work rate and finishing were one of the major reasons for ATK to sign him for this season.

The Punjab-born forward would definitely be one of the key members if ATK end up winning the ISL title for the third time in their history.
