Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi has insisted that the team can compete with anyone after the Italian team made a comeback from a goal down to win their first game in the Champions League group stage this season.

The Italian club scored two very late goals to come from behind having conceded a goal to Tottenham Hotspur in the 53rd minute, with Icardi scoring the equaliser. The win comes as a great respite for Inter, considering they have only managed to get four points in four games in the Serie A, but Icardi insists the team can compete with anyone.

"We know we're a strong team and that we can compete against anyone, we've been waiting for this match for three months and it gives us a lot of strength for the league," Icardi told Sky Italia, according to Goal.

"A match like that, in the Champions League, gives you so much but one game means nothing.

"We have to stay calm, take the good things we've done and go to play on Saturday with a different mentality.

"The environment was ugly in these past few weeks, but a game like this gives us confidence. Vecino has popped up like that for two crucial wins, but what's most important is for Inter to win."

The three points will prove to be vital for Inter as they are in a tough group that also has Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven. If they are to make it into the knockout rounds, it will be games like this that will come in handy.
