Real Madrid play host to Roma on this season's second night of Champions League action, as they bid to win the historic trophy a record breaking fourth consecutive time.
Real Madrid, now without Cristiano Ronaldo and perhaps the equally as decisive Los Blancos legend Zinedine Zidane, will be looking to stamp authority early on in this year's competition; whilst also proving they are serious contenders despite sitting fifth favourites.
Roma, on the other hand, will strive to improve on last year's remarkable run to the semi final.
3. Goalkeepers & Defenders
Thibaut Courtois (GK) - Summer arrival Courtois should be favourite to start after a Golden Glove winning performance at this summer's World Cup.
Dani Carvajal (RB) - Suffering an injury in last season's Champions League final, the Spanish born defender will be itching to get back out under the floodlights on Wednesday night.
Raphaël Varane (CB) - Re-energised after winning the World Cup, the French born defender has cemented his status as an elite player for Real Madrid.
Sergio Ramos (CB) - Increasingly scrutinised in the English media for his style of play, Ramos is a strikers nightmare, however his tendency to pick up cautions can drop him in hot water.
Marcelo (LB) - Rightly in the top bracket of left backs in the world, the highly skilled Brazilian has held the LB spot for many years at Madrid.
2. Midfielders
Casemiro (CDM) - Left on the bench for last weekend's trip to Bilbao, Casemiro should be fully regenerated to protect Madrid's back line on Wednesday night.
Luka Modric (CM) - Rightfully winning midfielder of the tournament at the World Cup, Modric finally appears to be receiving the plaudits he deserves and will be key to unlocking the Roma defence.
Toni Kroos (CM) - Up there with the best in the world, Kroos' diverse range of passing and spatial awareness makes him a significant threat.
1. Forwards
Marco Asensio (LW) - Tipped for greatness, Asensio is creating waves in Spain and has his eyes firmly fixed on lighting up the Champions League once again this season.
Karim Benzema (ST) - Spearheading the attack, Benzema has scored five in five and appears to be in lethal form.
Gareth Bale (RW) - Scoring three and assisting a further two in just four La Liga appearances, the flying Welshman will look to continue this momentum throughout Wednesday's game.
