The Chinese federation have refused the request of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the Indian under-16 side to travel to China to gain international exposure, claims a new report.

The AIFF are keen on the young players to get worldwide exposure and they have already played the likes of Norway and the United States during their recent trip to Spain for the Sport Chain Cup. With the AFC Under-16 Championship coming up in September, the AIFF were looking for possible touring destinations for the young colts.

The federation requested China to host a four team tournament ahead of the AFC Under-16 Championship but that has been denied by the Chinese federation, according to Sportskeeda. The Indian under-16 team's trip to Indonesia has also been cancelled since the duo have been paired with each other in the tournament to be held in September in Malaysia.

After a good showing in last year's FIFA Under-17 World Cup, the AIFF are hoping that the Indian Colts can qualify for the next edition of the tournament to be held in 2019.

Following China's rejection, the Indian officials are expected to contact Japan which has been touted as a possible destination. Before that, however, the under-16 side will travel to Serbia where they will face the host nation and Tajikistan.

The AFC Under-16 Championship serves as the qualification round for the Under-17 World Cup and India will be looking to do well and seal a place in the World Cup to be held next year in Peru.

India have been drawn alongside Iran, Vietnam and Indonesia in Group C and they will be looking to do well and progress to the knockout stages. The four semifinalists will qualify for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
