Picking the Best Manchester United XI to Take on Southampton

Manchester United are all set to embark on their most physically exhausting run of games, as they will be playing six of their next seven games away from home. St. Mary's been a good ground to play in for the Red Devils, who have won nine games in their last 12 visits, and Mourinho would love to build on it.

Let's take a look at how the league leaders could line up against Southampton.

  • de Gea

David de Gea is the undisputed No.1 and will start under the sticks.

  • Valencia
  • Bailly
  • Jones
  • Blind

Marcus Rojo is out with a knee problem, and would still require some time before he runs on to the field. Mourinho would most likely go with his strongest four at the back, with Valencia in sensational form.

Bailly and Jones have formed a formidable pair at the heart of defence, and should have enough while Blind may not have the pace like others, but his intelligence more than makes up for it.

  • Matic
  • Fellaini
  • Mkhitaryan
  • Mata
  • Martial

This Manchester midfield has everything you'd possibly want. They have two heavy defensive screens in Matic and Fellaini. Mata through the middle is a threat against any team in the world. The wide men, Mkhitaryan and Martial are more than capable of wreaking havoc on the opposition. Then Mourinho has players like Lingard and Rashford, who could make an impact whenever necessary.

  • Lukaku

Ex-Everton man, Romelu Lukaku has been in blistering form from the start of the season. He's been scoring for fun lately, and after an impressive performance against his former side, last weekend, he'll be hoping to make history at St. Mary's tonight.

If he manages to find the net tonight, he'd be the first player to score for three different clubs - West Bromwich Albion, Everton, Manchester United against Southampton.
