Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has expressed his unhappiness with the departure of star man Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain though he claims Barcelona have to respect the Brazilian's decision to leave.

The Brazilian made a stunning world record €222 million move to the French side and despite bringing in his replacement Ousmane Dembele, Rakitic believes that the club will miss a player of his quality.

Speaking to the BBC World Service, as reported by Goal, Rakitic said, "For me personally, it was really hard, not only because he's one of the biggest players; also, for me, he's a big person."

"He was really important for our dressing room, and for me he's one of the best guys I know in football. So for me it was really a bad decision because I liked to have him in my team."

The move left a bad taste in the mouths of the people connected with Barcelona but Rakitic claims everyone must accept and respect Neymar's decision to move to PSG.

"We have to respect Neymar's decision to move. If a team can buy him and he decides to leave Barcelona, we have to respect it and wish him the best [of] luck."

"Hopefully he can score a lot of goals and be happy in Paris, but we have to go on our way and be strong together without Neymar now."

Despite losing Neymar, Barcelona and Rakitic have started their season on great form, winning their opening five games and topping the league table. On the other hand, Neymar's start at PSG has not gone smoothly, with the Brazilian falling out with fellow attacker Edinson Cavani.
