Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed defender John Stones after his match winning performance against Dutch champions Feyenoord and said that the only thing stopping Stones from becoming world class is the fact that he needs improvement in winning defensive duels for his team.

Stones scored two powerful headers as City thrashed Feyenoord by 4-0 in Rotterdam on Wednesday. After the match, Guardiola was particularly happy with a good start to this year's Champions League campaign.

The Spanish manager said, "Last season we were not able to win one game away (in the group stage). If you want to win, you have to beat them at home."

Among City's five star performance, midfielders Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne ran the show as they carved Feyenoord's defence open throughout the match.

Stones scored the first goal for City after which Aguero hammered in a volley to put City 2-0 up. City went 3-0 up when Gabriel Jesus scored a tap-in goal on the 25th minute of the game before Stones wrapped up his second and City's fourth goal of the match.

Guardiola was all praise for Stones after the match as he said, "John Stones, there is no doubt about his quality. But he knows what the gap is to improve as a football player, he has to win the duels. When he will be able to do that he will become an exceptional central defender."
