Picking the Best Potential Schalke Lineup to Face Leipzig on Saturday Night

New Schalke boss Domenico Tedesco will be wanting his side to prove their top four credentials this season, and the Royal Blues take on close rivals and Champions League chasers RB Leipzig in the highlight fixture of match day one.

After a dissapointing mid table finish and their lowest finish in seven years, Schalke will want to push on and make that final step into the promised land this time round.

The newly appointed captain after taking the armband from Benedikt Howedes over the summer, Ralf Fahrmann has been one the leagues top shot-stoppers for a few years now and will be sure to retain his position as proceedings begin this term.

Defence

With usual defensive stalwart Naldo doubtful for Saturday night's clash, the responsibility will fall onto 20-year-old Thilo Kehrer's shoulders to sure up the back three in an aggressive line-up.

Ever present Howedes should line up to lead the back line amidst interest as a £20m target for Premier League side Liverpool this week.

Matija Nastasic will keep his regular spot alongside Howedes in the back-line.

Nabil Bentaleb maintains his position alongside star man Leon Goretzka after his impressive 2016/17 season and a solid showing for Germany in the Confederations Cup over the summer.

Daniel Caligiuri comes in to one of the wing back positions in what is a familiar role, meanwhile on the other flank Bastian Oczipka will be taking on the role that was filled by Arsenal new boy Sead Kolasinac on the left side of midfield.

Schalke will also be without the services of defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli as he serves a suspension.

After Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's phasing out of the side last season the scoring mantle now falls to Austrian target man Guido Burgstaller, who will be wanting to build on his 9 goals from his sides last campaign.

Yevhen Konoplyanka will continue to hassle defences this term after his permanent signing from Spanish side Sevilla over the summer, and promising French talent Amine Harit will be making his debut after signing a four-year deal from Nantes.

And will look to provide some much needed fresh blood into an overhauled Schalke side, fellow forward Breel Embolo has struggled for fitness leading up to the opening encounter with Leipzig.
