Picking the Best Potential West Ham United Lineup to Play Southampton on Saturday

West Ham United will be looking to quickly pick themselves up after last week's 4-0 humiliation at Old Trafford last Sunday. Having only managed one shot on target throughout the entire game, Slaven Bilic's side will look to challenge for all three points against a strong Southampton side on Saturday.

The Hammers trip to St Mary's will be the second of their three opening away games, as the London Stadium is being used to host athletics.

  • Hart

Joe Hart will be greatly bereaved to have conceded four goals against old rivals Manchester United, and considering his poor form during his loan move to Torino, the jury is still out over whether the England international still has it.

As the Hammers edge closer to selling keeper Adrian, they put all their faith in Hart's goalkeeping abilities.

  • Zabaleta
  • Reid
  • Ogbonna
  • Masuaku

The Hammers' defence could be in for a happy away day at St Mary's as the home side have failed to score in nine hours of football at their south coast stadium. Although Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna will be forced to deal with the probing threat of Manolo Gabbiadini in order for that to happen.

New signing Pablo Zabaleta appears to have already secured his spot at right-back, batting away competition from the inconsistent Sam Byram, while Arthur Masuaku could keep his place ahead of the equally inconsistent Aaron Cresswell.

  • Noble
  • Obiang
  • Antonio
  • Ayew
  • Arnautovic

If reports are to believed, Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho could soon be on his way to the club, but until that happens club skipper Mark Noble and talented Spaniard Pedro Obiang should keep their spots in the centre of the midfield. Cheikhou Kouyaté is kept out again with an injury.

Fan favourite Michail Antonio returns from injury and will hope to spark some creativity into a side that was significantly lacking in that department on Sunday.

Expect promising youngster Declan Rice to make an appearance as the game goes on.

  • Chicharito

Bilic will hope new signing Chicharito can start banging in the goals soon, however that might hinge on the ability of other players to get the ball out to the Mexican forward.

Diafra Sakho doesn't currently pose much of a threat to Chicharito's starting spot, but room might have to be made to accommodate the returning Andy Carroll who could be back as early as next week.
