Atletico Madrid will look to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil if Antoine Griezmann leaves the club next summer to Manchester United. Griezmann has been long linked with a move to Manchester United but decided to stay at Atletico for another season since their transfer ban prohibits them to sign potential replacements.

However, according to Don Balon, as reported by the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho's side will revive their interest in the Frenchman next year and this could see Atletico sign Mesut Ozil as a replacement.

Diego Simeone is keen to work with the German international and will be looking to get him from Arsenal next summer if Griezmann leaves.

The report claims that Ozil is also interested in Simeone's project at Atletico and with his contract expiring next summer, the Madrid side could get him for free if he chooses to leave Arsenal.

Ozil spent three years with Real Madrid in the past but is open to the idea of joining their city rivals Atletico who have established themselves as a top club under Simeone.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has previously claimed that he is confident on Ozil extending his contract but could lose the Germany international for nothing next summer.

Getting a player of Ozil's class will be a huge coup for Diego Simeone's side who are looking to cement their standing as one of the best sides in Europe.
