Manchester United were on top of their game yesterday; their first game ended in a stunning 4-0 win to the Red Devils, against a West Ham side that could do barely anything to control them. Here are three takeaways for the Red Devils from their opening encounter.
3. Attacking Wingers: The Powerhouses of United
Manchester United's wingers, Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, showcased some of the best attacking and defensive performances in that position. They attacked with the same ferocity as they defended; they were all over the pitch, and every single movement of theirs was amazing to watch and extremely essential. United will do well to not alter this combination.
2. Defensive Strength
United's defense was spot on; they were completely in sync, and quashed any threat from a potentially great attacking side of Ayew, Hernandez, Valencia and Arnautovic. Phil Jones stepped in for a poorly performing Chris Smalling, and really showed that he deserved to be played. United's defense put up an impeccable show .
1. Lukaku: United's Belgian Wonder
Romelu Lukaku showed everyone just why he was deserving of the price tag put on him. With two goals on his debut, he is off to a great start in the attempt to break his last season's tally of goals. More than that, his ability to play with the team showed brightly, and that will be of great comfort to the fans and to Mourinho. Expect a lot from him this season.
