Former Arsenal defender and pundit Martin Keown has claimed that Manchester United's summer signing Romelu Lukaku must become a 'raging lion' if he is to succeed at Old Trafford.

Lukaku has joined the Red Devils for £75 million from Everton but doubts still remain over his ability to perform in the big games, despite his rich goalscoring form for Everton over the past few years.

Manchester United finished in sixth place last season mostly due to an indifferent home form and Keown states that Lukaku will be the key if Jose Mourinho's side are to challenge for the title.

However, the former England international also has questioned whether Lukaku has the temperament to succeed under Mourinho, who sold him when he was at Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail, Keown said, "Romelu Lukaku is key to United’s plans of building a strong side to roll over other teams. Their home form has been embarrassing — 26 goals at home last season and 10 draws."

Speaking about Lukaku, Keown claimed, "Too often he’s a pussy cat, but can Mourinho — the man who sold him at Chelsea and saw him as not good enough, don’t forget — turn him into a raging lion?"

Having finished second in the goalscoring charts last season with 25 goals in the Premier League, Lukaku will hope to hit the ground running with Manchester United as they begin their Premier League campaign tonight against West Ham.
