Newcastle vs Tottenham: The Spurs' Expected Starting Line Up

Lack of transfer activity, the exit of Kyle Walker and unavailability of a home stadium - Certainly, not the brightest of times for the Spurs you would think. But if there is anybody who knows how to perform when the stacks are against them, it is Maurico Pochettino's men.

Facing Rafa Benitez's Newcastle United, the Lilywhites will be hoping to assert their status as genuine heavyweights, proving that their second-place finish last season was no fluke. As the team trains at the St.James Park ahead of its game on Sunday, we predict the Spurs' XI likely to feature against Benitez's side.

Goalkeeper

The French goalkeeper is sure to start for Spurs as they look to maintain their dominant defensive display this season.

Defence

Kieran Trippier, Walker's successor on the right side of the defence is out nursing an injury as is left-back Danny Rose.

Thus, Pochettino will have to make do with Eric Dier and Ben Davies on either side of the centre-back duo of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. Given Benitez's attacking bent of mind, Wanyama may have to fall deep to assist the defence line.

Midfield

Victor Wanyama was impressive in his debut season last year with his solid defending and composed ball playing skills.

With Moussa Dembele for company, there is little to worry about in the defensive half area. As far as the attacking midfield is concerned, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are counted among the best in the league with Sissoko for support. Certainly, Spurs have one of the most settled midfield in the league.

Forwards

  • Kane

The Golden Boot awardee fell three short of breaking the Premier League all-time top goal scorer record with his tally of 29 goals last season.

Having finished the season with seven goals in his last two matches, Kane will be eager to open the goal-scoring floodgates this year. Newcastle's defenders are surely going to have a hard time tonight.
