The summer transfer window is under full swing at the moment, with a number of clubs already conducting their business in order to strengthen their squad and sell players who are surplus to their requirements.
However, clubs are also being cautious when it comes to potential deals as they would rather wait for a player to run down their contract, rather than pay a transfer fee for them. Here, we take a look at five top players whose contracts end in the summer of 2022.
1. Kylian Mbappe (PSG)
Widely considered as the best young striker in the world, Kylian Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, who have made no secret of their desire to sign the youngster.
The Frenchman's current contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in 2022, with it being reported that he has already told his employers that he has no plans to sign a new deal and is keen to make a move.
It will be interesting to see whether the player does end up moving to the Bernabeu next season.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)
Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Juventus has come under intense speculation this summer, with it being reported that the player is keen to leave the club and that the club too would be willing to sell him, in order to reduce their massive wage bill.
The 36-year-old is out of contract next summer and while he has remained mum on his future, the Bianconeri chiefs have reiterated that they have no plans of selling the superstar this summer.
3. Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
Another top Juventus player whose contract expires in the summer of 2022 is Paulo Dybala, with the Argentinian yet to pen a new deal with the Bianconeri.
The club are understood to be extremely keen to keep hold of the 27-year-old as they see him as the player around who they want to build their side and would not want to lose both Ronaldo and Dybala at the same time.
4. Paul Pogba (Manchester United)
Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United has been in the news for a long time, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid understood to have expressed in signing the midfielder.
United for their part want the Frenchman to remain at Old Trafford, though the player for his part is yet to issue a statement on his plans.
5. Pedri (Barcelona)
Pedri emerged on the world scene after enjoying a breakout season with Barcelona in 2020/21, while also starring for Spain in the 2020 European Championships.
While the youngsters contract expires next summer, it is understood that it is not of a major concern for the club as they expect the player to extend his deal with them.
