Many believe that the Champions League is even more competitive than the World Cup as the best players in the world regularly compete in the competition.
Here, we take a look at five teams who have scored the most goals in a single Champions League season.

1. Barcelona - 45 goals - 1999/2000 season
Barcelona who were knocked out in the semi-finals of the 1999/2000 season did manage to score 45 goals that season and they were perhaps unfortunate not to win the trophy as they had a brilliant squad and were scintillating in front of goal. With the likes of Rivaldo, Patrick Kluivert, Luis Enrique, Luis Figo and Simao in attack, they were a pleasure to watch.
2. Bayern Munich - 43 goals - 2019/2020 season
Bayern Munich scored 43 goals in the Champions League this season as they beat PSG 1-0 in the Champions League final.
3. Real Madrid - 41 goals - 2013/2014 season
Real Madrid won the 2014 Champions League title, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the way by scoring a staggering 17 goals in the competition. The likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema also contributed to the tally in what was a brilliant season for the Los Blancos.
4. Liverpool - 41 goals - 2017/2018 season
Runners-up in the 2017/18 season, Liverpool counted on the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino - who scored a combined 32 goals between themselves in the Champions League. If the Reds can keep their front three for the near future, they might find themselves in the top three.
5. Real Madrid - 36 goals - 2016/2017 season
Real Madrid find themselves for the second time in this list, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the way once again by scoring 12 goals in the competition while also helping them win the Champions League title.
