Football today is become very competitive and the focus tends to be on strikers who get most of the plaudits and honours, with those players providing the assists not as celebrated when it comes to winning individual prizes.

Here, we take a look at five players with the most assists in all competitions since 2000.

1. Thomas Muller - 30 assists in 2021

Thomas Muller has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts in the last couple of years and in 2021 he was brilliant on the ball as seen by the 30 assists he supplied to his fellow team-mates.

His form over the past year also saw him get called up back to the German national squad and both his club and country will hope that he continues the same form come 2022.

2. Angel Di Maria - 23 assists in 2011

Angel Di Maria perhaps remains one of the most underrated footballers of all-time considering that he has been a match-winner for all of the clubs he has played with in his career - while also starring for Argentina on a regular basis.

While he is not known for his penchant to score goals, he does provide assists and his high point came in 2011 when he registered 23 assists.

3. Thierry Henry - 23 assists in 2003

Thierry Henry is widely considered as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the game, but he was not only a goalscorer and was able to affect all facets of the play.

The Frenchman was unplayable at his best and in 2003 he provided 23 assists, which just goes to show his versatility.

4. Filip Kostic - 22 assists in 2021

Capable as playing as a wing-back and a left-back, Filip Kostic has been brilliant on the ball in 2021, providing 22 assists and has been arguably Eintracht Frankfurt's most important player this year.

The Serbian is one of the key reasons why the club finds themselves in the top six come the end of the year.

5. Mesut Ozil - 21 assists in 2015

For a period of time in the 2010s, there wasn't a more elegant player than Mesut Ozil with the German being especially brilliant for Real Madrid and for Arsenal at the start.

The 33-year-old registered 21 assists in 2015, which was his best figures in his career.
