The season across all leagues is in full swing with players across Europe putting in performances in order to ensure that they lead their clubs to trophies come the end of the season. As usual, there have been a few who have been brilliant in front of goal and here, we take a look at five players who have best goal-per-game ratio in the calendar year.

Robert Lewandowski has established himself as the best striker in the world over the past three years and he leads the charts in 2021 too, scoring a staggering 46 goals so far.

The Bayern Munich hitman has an astonishing goals-per-game ratio of 1.26, with many believing that he deserves the Ballon d'Or award this year for his performances.

Tipped by many to become the best player in the world in the future, Erling Haaland has already displayed his goalscoring prowess for both club and country.

That he has scored 37 goals in 2021 at the tender age of 21 goes to show just how brilliant he can become as his game matures and he is one player that has already attracted the interest from a number of top European clubs.

Widely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, Lionel Messi shows no signs of stopping with the Argentinian scoring 31 goals in the calendar year so far.

The 34-year-old is being tipped to win his seventh Ballon d'Or award after leading Argentina to their first Copa America title since 1993.

The 33-year-old played a key role in Madrid winning the 2019/20 LaLiga title and has been in brilliant form this year for both club and country.
