2020 was a year which saw a disruption in football due to the advent of the coronavirus pandemic, but despite that there were top performances from players in Europe. A number of players posted brilliant numbers and here we take a look at the five players who registered the most assists in the top 5 leagues in the year gone by.

1. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City/Belgium) - 23 Assists

The reigning PFA Player of the Year and without doubt the best player in the Premier League, Kevin De Bruyne was at his creative best in 2020, as seen by the 23 assists he registered in 45 games. The Belgian will be looking to continue this form, especially in the Champions League and the upcoming 2021 European Championships.

2. Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich) - 22 Assists

Thomas Muller was a man reborn in the 2019/20 season, as he showed once again why he is so important to Bayern Munich as they swept aside teams both domestically and in Europe. The former German international registered 22 assists in 47 games for his club.

3. Angel Di Maria (PSG/Argentina) - 20 Assists

Angel Di Maria remains one of the most underrated players in the world, especially since he remains a key attacking threat for both club and country. The Argentinian was once again brilliant in 2020, registering 20 assists in just 36 games as he led Paris Saint-Germain to domestic dominance and the final of the UEFA Champions League.

4. Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich/Germany) - 20 Assists

Joshua Kimmich is so versatile that he can slot into any world XI both in midfield or as a right-back, with the German a key reason why Bayern were do dominant in 2019/20. He is only 25-years-old and has been tipped to become one of the greatest ever to come from his country.

5. Kylian Mbappe (PSG/French) - 20 Assists

A player tipped to take over the best player in the world mantle once Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi retire, Kylian Mbappe has been brilliant in front of goal over the past three years. Not many know that he is as prolific when it comes to providing assists as when he is scoring, as seen by the 20 he provided last year.
