Premier League football finally returns after a long international break, and it's time to take stock of your team, especially considering the injuries and coronavirus cases the league has seen in the last two weeks.
Liverpool were hit worst, and you might want to consider swapping out Mohamed Salah, or at least benching him until he returns a negative coronavirus test. If your team has been decimated by injury and pandemic-related misfortune, perhaps it is an optimal time to consider using your Free Hit chip.
While numerous popular players are set to be absent this weekend, there are plenty of others who seemingly might be worth taking a chance on, apart from the obvious ones.
Here are 5 players you must pick for Gameweek Nine:
Bruno Fernandes - £10.6m - West Brom (H)
Bruno Fernandes was the highest points scorer in Gameweek 8 with 17 points from two goals and an assist vs Everton, and is still the fifth-highest scoring midfielder in FPL this season until now with 53 points. A home encounter with West Brom lifts the appeal of Fernandes as captain. The Manchester United midfielder is the most-bought player, transferred in by 461,000+ new owners.
Jack Grealish - £7.5m - Brighton (H)
Jack Grealish has been one of the best players in the season until now, picking up 60 points from just seven games. The playmaker has recorded double-figure hauls in two of his last three appearances at Villa Park, bringing in 24 and 15 points against Liverpool and Southampton respectively. He has nine goal involvements in the Premier League, just behind Heung-min Son (10) and Harry Kane (15).
Hakim Ziyech - £8.2m - Newcastle (A)
Hakim Ziyech has hit the ground running with one goal and three assists in just two starts for the Blues. Last gameweek, Ziyech was only owned by 4.8% of players and this has already shot right up to 13.6% with his back to back double-digit hauls. Ziyech has also supplied four big chances in that period, more than any other player in FPL until now.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin - £7.8 - Fulham (A)
One of the most consistent players in 2020/21, the Everton striker has blanked only once in the first eight Gameweeks. The England international is currently owned by more than 60 percent of FPL manager, and an away trip to struggling Fulham gives him another chance to add to his goal tally. Scott Parker's side have conceded 11 big chances at home, the second-most in the Premier League.
Jamie Vardy - £10.1 - Liverpool (A)
Leicester will quite possibly be up against a depleted Liverpool side that's missing its top four defenders: Virgil van Dijk, Trent Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, and Joe Gomez. Jamie Vardy will look at this as the perfect chance to grab three points from the Premier League champions. The 33-year-old already has eight goals and one assist in seven appearances this season.
