The 2021 summer transfer which closed last week was one of the most exciting windows in recent times, and it saw some long drawn-out sagas come to an end. However, there were a few players who failed to seal moves away from their clubs, with some of them having no other choice but remain at their clubs for the foreseeable future.

Here, we take a look at few of Premier League's forgotten men and whose futures remain in limbo at least till January.

1. Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham Hotspur)

Tottenham Hotspur spent a club record transfer sum to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon in 2019 and it is safe to say that he has struggled to live up to his price-tag so far in his time at north London.

The 24-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent but has looked unfit for a majority of his time, and it came as no surprise that he asked to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

However, there was not a single club who were interested in signing him, which is not surprising considering that he commands £200,000-per-week. It will now be up to the player to decide whether he wants to prove himself to the club and it's fans or warm the bench till the January window rolls in.

2. Ross Barkley (Chelsea)

Another player who has failed to fulfill his potential so far has been Ross Barkley, though the attacking midfielder put in some good performances for Aston Villa during his loan spell with them last season.

However, he returned to Chelsea this summer and is surplus to requirements for them, with the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham United and Burnley expressing an interest in signing him.

He though will have to remain at Stamford Bridge after his £100,000-a-week wage proved to be stumbling block as no club wanted to pay that amount for the player.

3. Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal)

Ainsley Maitland-Niles took to Instagram to publicly confront Arsenal over why he was not granted a loan move to Everton, which did not go down well with the club management.

The 24-year-old who is not a starter at Arsenal, certainly has no future at the Emirates and it will be interesting to see whether he will get his wish regarding a move in January.

4. James Rodriguez (Everton)

Everton signed James Rodriguez in the hope that he would help them reach the Champions League, but after a good start to life in England, his form soon fizzled out.

What did not help him was that Carlo Ancelotti left the club in the summer and while he was keen for a move, Everton could not offload him, which has left his future in a limbo.

The Colombian who is a brilliant player on his day, is not keen to remain at Everton and it is unlikely that he will feature under Rafael Benitez this season.
