The UEFA Champions League is widely considered to be the biggest and most prestigious club competition in the world, with a number of top teams participating in it in order to win the trophy come the end of the campaign.

A number of great players have participated in the competition both in the past and at present and here, we take a look at four players who have registered the most assists in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo - 17 assists

Cristiano Ronaldo will go down as arguably the greatest player in Champions League history and it is no wonder that it is called the UEFA Cristiano league considering that he has scored a staggering 67 goals in the knockout stage, while also topping the list for the most assists with 17 to his name.

The 37-year-old will no doubt look to add to his tally before he eventually decides to hang up his boots.

2. Franck Ribery - 16 assists

One of the finest wingers in football history and unplayable at times during his peak, Franck Ribery was brilliant during his time at Bayern Munich and shined on the big stage as seen by his 16 goals in the knockout stage.

The Frenchman can consider himself unlucky to have won only one Champions League trophy during his storied career, with the winger still playing at the age of 38 in the Serie A.

3. Andres Iniesta - 15 assists

Widely regarded by many as one of the greatest passers and playmakers in the history of the sport, Andres Iniesta was the man for the big occasion and he played a key role in all of Barcelona's success in the recent past.

The Spaniard registered 15 assists in the knockout stage and he may just add to his tally in the future as recent reports have suggested that he is open to a return to the Camp Nou.

4. Ryan Giggs - 15 assists

One of the most decorated players of all-time and one who spent his entire career at Manchester United, Ryan Giggs won two Champions League trophies and makes this list due to his consistency and creative abilities on the pitch.

Giggs also holds the record for registering the most assists in Premier League history with 162 to his name.
