The Indian Super League has completed over 3 weeks of football now, as it is turning out to be a season of real twists and turns as even the seeming minnows are defeating the bigger team in unexpected results.
It is truly turning out to be a highly competitive season, as the dark horses in NorthEast United FC sit at the top of the table with 10 points from their first 6 games, as they have impressed so far with 3 wins in their 6 games under new coach Nelo Vingada and have unearthed some real gems so far as well in terms of Indian footballing talent on display.
Atletico De Kolkata seem to be enjoying life under new coach Jose Molina pretty well as they sit at 2nd place with 9 points of 5 games and are the only unbeaten team so far in the league as they a point adrift of the leaders having played a game less than NorthEast United FC.
Chennaiyin FC have shrugged off a disappointing start to the season and have won 2 of their past 3 games to find themselves in 3rd place as the defending champions seem to be peaking at the right time as they gun for the title yet again.
Mumbai City FC won both their first two games, but are yet to win since then as they sit on 4th place with 8 points as Diego Forlan's absence in their past games seems to have affected Alexandre Guimaraes side badly.
Gianluca Zambrotta's Delhi Dynamos sit on 5th place with 6 points so far, as they have also had a disappointing start to the season and will look to play the second half of the season strongly in order to qualify for the knockout stages for the 2nd consecutive season.
FC Pune City and Kerala Blasters FC aren't that much away from them as they sit on 6th and 7th respectively with 5 points so far and will the latter will look to jump up the table when they face FC Goa later on tonight.
FC Goa are shockingly at the bottom of the table, as they had a disastrous start to the season having lost 3 of the first games, but have recovered since then as they have drawn and won their past 2 games to gain 4 points from 2 games. They'll look to jump up the table when they face Kerala today, as they could jump up to 5th place with a win and leave Kerala hanging in the bottom.
The Indian Super League is set to go to overdrive as it moves onto the 2nd half of the season and things will start to get interesting now that the league format is heading to a close and everyone will look to gain a place in the top 4 in order to play the semi-finals, which can take them one step closer to winning the coveted prize of the ISL trophy!
