Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has confirmed he plans to stay and fight for his future at Anfield this summer.
The 22-year-old, a boyhood Liverpool fan, has managed 24 appearances across all competitions this season, but the vast majority of those have come as a late substitute. In total, Arne Slot has handed him 651 minutes at an average of just over 27 minutes per appearance. None of his 14 Premier League outings have come as a starter.
His limited role saw Elliott admit he has been "angry and frustrated" at times this season and sparked suggestions of a move away from Liverpool. It is believed the Reds are prepared to demand as much as £40m in the face of interest from Newcastle United.
While Elliott admitted to the Liverpool ECHO that he cannot predict what his future may hold, he made no attempt to hide his wish to remain at the club beyond this season.
"I hope that I can push on [next season]," Elliott said. "This is my team, I am committed to them and it's just a situation that is always going to have a lot of talk, I just need to think about what is best for my future, my career and, as much as I want it to be here, you never know what is going to happen around the corner.
"If I had it my way, that would be here, I would play each and every game here and stay here for the rest of my career but it all depends on managers, the people above and, as I said, you don't know what could happen, but as far as I am aware I am here, here to stay and this is the club I want to be at.
"Hopefully I am still here to be honest. It is the best place to be, the best club to be at and especially having the fans around us at the moment, I don't think there is a better place to be playing.
"Players go through ups and downs but at the end of the day you have to come out fighting and I think it is within myself to make it happen. So hopefully I can stay here for the rest of my career."
Elliott's season got off to a stuttering start after a foot injury sidelined him between September and December, and he acknowledged the challenge of trying to force his way into a settled midfield unit that was already dazzling in his absence.
"I think it's been a lot more difficult for me because I obviously had that injury at the start," he explained. "But at the same time, you need to be here for the team, work as hard as you can and when the opportunities come on the pitch.
"A lot of times this season it's almost been [coming on] when we've been losing or drawing, so it is about trying to change the game, try and turn it around and have a positive impact. But, you know, any minutes for Liverpool are amazing."
Reports state Liverpool will not actively look to sell Elliott, whose commitment to the club in a fringe role is incredibly valuable, but "good offers" for a player who cost a total of £4.3m when he joined from Fulham in 2019 could be accepted.
