Darwin Nunez fuelled reports of a summer exit from Liverpool by deleting all images of his time at Anfield from his Instagram page.

Reports in England suggest that Nunez, who is understood to have been pursued by manager Jurgen Klopp as opposed to the club's recruitment team, could be sold this summer amid interest from Barcelona, with the Spanish side looking for a long-term replacement to Robert Lewandowski.

After those rumours began to surface, Nunez was left out of the starting lineup for Liverpool's 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, only coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes.

The speculation ramped up after the final whistle when Nunez removed every photo related to Liverpool from his Instagram, with the only mention of the Reds being a tag in his bio.

Nunez's page still includes photos from his time at Benfica but all that follows are posts about his family or the Uruguay national team.

Liverpool struck an £85m deal to sign Nunez from Benfica in 2022 and reports suggest they have already paid a total of £76.5m, with the remaining £8.5m still linked to unspecified clauses relating to both team and individual performance.

As a result, Nunez is officially Liverpool's record signing, eclipsing the £75m paid to sign centre-back Virgil van Dijk, but many Reds fans fear they have not received value for their sizeable expense.

Despite the speculation, Nunez has enjoyed a better season in front of goal this year compared to his debut campaign. After 15 goals and four assists in 2022/23, Nunez has racked up 18 and 13 this time around, but some supporters have still been left wanting more.

Any deal to sign Nunez would be incredibly difficult to pull off for Barcelona, whose financial struggles are no secret, but the La Liga outfit may need a new striker this summer if they fail to convince young Vitor Roque to remain at Camp Nou.
