Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he is 'excited' to watch Kylian Mbappe play for Real Madrid following the long-awaited confirmation of his move to the club.

Madrid announced on Monday evening they had reached an agreement to sign Mbappe on a free transfer ahead of the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain contract later this month.

The French forward has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu ever since his breakthrough 2016/17 season at AS Monaco. He notably turned down the chance to join Madrid in 2022 when his previous PSG deal was on the verge of expiration, only to surprisingly sign a new contract at Parc des Princes.

But with Mbappe's move to Madrid now finalised, club legend Ronaldo has taken the opportunity to send his regards to the 25-year-old on social media.

Taking to Instagram, Ronaldo said: "My turn to [watch]. Excited to see you light up the Bernabeu."

Mbappe also shared a picture of himself in his younger days with Ronaldo as part of his first social media post confirming his decision to join Madrid.

Earlier in his career, Mbappe stated that Ronaldo and fellow Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, were his idols growing up.

Mbappe is currently preparing for Euro 2024 with France and will then join up with his new Madrid teammates for the first time in a pre-season tour of the United States. He is expected to start the 2024/25 season with Los Blancos after being left out of France's Olympic team, and his first competitive game could come in the UEFA Super Cup against Europa League winners Atalanta.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, recently missed out on the King Cup with Al Nassr, while they also finished second again in the Saudi Pro League. He will be hoping to put a subpar club season behind him with a successful Euro 2024 campaign for Portugal.
