Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed his desire to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Delap is expected to spark a transfer scramble this summer after his release clause of £30m became active in the wake of Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, with some outlets naming the Blues as favourites to win the race for his signature, but United are looking at Delap as their top striker target heading into the summer transfer window.

Moyes acknowledged that Delap's other suitors likely have larger profiles than Everton, but vowed to battle for his signature if the England youth international is open to moving to Merseyside.

"He would be one who we would certainly have an interest in," Moyes said ahead of Saturday's meeting between the two sides. "I think what he probably has to look at will probably be bigger than what we are.

"So, we would certainly be interested if he was interested in us. That's for sure."

Manchester City had been tipped to trigger their buy-back clause for Delap earlier this season, but that pre-agreed figure sits at £40m - higher than Delap's current release clause. City are still entitled to 20% of the fee Ipswich receive for their star striker.

Recent reports also named Newcastle United as rival suitors, with the Magpies aiming to build a forward line which includes both Delap and the in-demand Alexander Isak, whose £150m price tag should ensure he remains at St James' Park beyond the summer.

Delap is likely to have his pick of clubs this summer and will have the final say on his future, with European football and competition for minutes both likely to factor into his final decision.
