Edin Terzic has urged Borussia Dortmund to be "brave" as they aim to secure their first Champions League trophy in 27 years at the expense of European titans Real Madrid.

Terzic witnessed Dortmund's 1997 triumph over Juventus as a 14-year-old fan and was part of the backroom staff during their 2013 final defeat to Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium.

Now he has the remarkable opportunity to see the Black and Yellow claim their second European crown as manager.

"[Madrid] will be the favourites, but we don’t care," Terzic said in Friday's press conference.

"We weren’t favourites against Atletico Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain [in the quarter-final or semi-final] either. If we are brave, then we're going to have a chance."

Julian Brandt exuded confidence when he shared his thoughts of the showdown against Los Blancos.

"[Madrid] is the ultimate opponent in the Champions League with their history," the midfielder explained. "But our Champions League season gives us courage. We all have absolute faith. If it were any different, we might as well have stayed at home.

"We weren’t at our highest level when we conceded goals in September, but we are a totally different team now and have shown we are ready to compete for the trophy.

"We are the team with the most clean sheets in the competition. You need to keep the opposition as far away from goal as possible."

In their opening two matches, Dortmund lost 2-0 to PSG and drew at home with AC Milan.

Following this, Terzic's men recorded back-to-back wins over Newcastle in the group stages and had a dramatic 5-4 aggregate victory in the quarter-finals before getting revenge over PSG with a pair of 1-0 wins in the semi-final.
