Bayern Munich are reported to have established contact with Vincent Kompany over the possibility of becoming the club's new head coach next season.

Kompany began his managerial career with Anderlecht in his native Belgium, but came to wider international prominence for his work guiding Burnley back into the Premier League in 2023.

His Clarets team couldn't sustain their top flight status and suffered an immediate return to the Championship, but Kompany's reputation has still soared.

Sky Sport Germany now reports that he has emerged on Bayern’s radar. The club hierarchy are said to "see a lot of potential" in Kompany, who only recently turned 38, and have already held the "first concrete discussions" over taking him to Bavaria from Lancashire.

Bayern have hit difficulties in their pursuit of a new manager in recent weeks. Xabi Alonso was their preferred candidate until he pledged to stay at Bayer Leverkusen instead, while Julian Nagelsmann signed a new contract with the DFB as Germany boss and Ralf Rangnick also said no.

The Bundesliga giants were left to consider going back to Thomas Tuchel, having made the decision in February to get rid of him a year early, with their tail between their legs. But he ruled that out and Sky notes that their focus has moved on to a "small group of candidates" from the Premier League.

Kompany is the only name given, but Bayern have also previously been linked with Roberto De Zerbi, whose impending departure from Brighton has been confirmed. There has also been talk of interest in Oliver Glasner due to his incredible turnaround of Crystal Palace, and Erik ten Hag if Manchester United decide to dispense with the Dutchman this summer.

Kompany, a four-time Premier League champion during 11 years with Manchester City, is given an extra nudge as he played under Pep Guardiola in his final three seasons. He also has previous ties to Germany after a spell at Hamburg as a player, albeit more than 15 years ago.
