Nike have released a host of new international kits for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures and the delayed Euro 2020 tournament next summer, with France, Netherlands, Portugal and Croatia among those that have dropped alongside England and others.

France

The new France jersey is inspired by the 1998 World Cup winning shirt, which itself was already a nod to Les Bleus’ Euro ’84 glory. That means the horizontal red stripe is steeped in history, as Kylian Mbappe and co. aim to match the achievements of 20 years ago when France became only the second country to be both reigning world and European champions simultaneously.

The 2020 shirt also features lighter blue hoops against the darker background colour, giving it an unmistakably Gallic look.

The away kit is much plainer but innately classy in ‘pure white’ and minimal detail.

Netherlands

The new Netherlands 2020 shirt will be the first to be worn by a male Dutch team at a major international tournament since 2014 after missing out on both Euro 2016 and the last World Cup.

It continues using black as the trim colour as before, but incorporates a graphic pattern into the design that is actually the subtle face of a lion, the national team’s symbol. The whole kit will be completed by both orange shorts and orange socks.

The away kit looks formidable in all-black and orange trim, featuring a polo-style collar.

Portugal

Portugal have launched a new home shirt that also looks very much like a polo shirt, featuring a polo-style buttoned collar. The dark red jersey is complemented by black and green trim on the sleeve cuffs and down the sides of the torso, while the Nike logo is gold.

Portugal will pair it with green shorts, making it actually the first Portuguese home shirt to be worn with green shorts – rather than white or red – since Euro 2004 on home soil.

Teal is the colour of choice for the new away kit that will be worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. It is inspired by the country’s away strip at the victorious Euro 2016 and features three blocky horizontal stripes in black, red and teal.

Croatia

Croatia have stuck with large red and white checks, similar to those worn at the 2018 World Cup when they went all the way to their first ever major final. The sleeves and neckline have a different look this time, while blue also returns as a trim colour down the sides of the torso.

The away already has potential to be a modern cult classic and is described by Nike as ‘stealthy’ as a result of its abstract black and anthracite checkerboard pattern. Vivid red trim makes it pop.

England

The England home shirt has a subtle look of the Three Lions’ Euro ’96 kit to it, featuring a central badge, albeit with a round neck collar. ‘Community’ is the major theme to, with a ‘community of lions’ graphic on both the collar and side stripes.

The away shirt is all-blue, making a rare break from the traditional red to go for a vibrant modern look that retains distinct 1990s throwback vibes. The jersey features a graphic pattern, while the monochrome red crest is an attractive but subtle contrast.

Poland

Poland’s new shirts for Euro 2020 are directly inspired by those worn in the 1970s and 1980s, which was a golden era of Polish football when the country finished third at World Cups in 1974 and 1982.

The traditional white home shirt is a classic design featuring the iconic eagle crest in the centre, while there is also a graphic pattern to bring it into modern times, as well as a polo-style collar.

The away jersey is a similar colour reverse in red with white trim.

Norway

Norway will be a team to watch in the 2020s given the young talents like Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland at their disposal, and they could still reach a first major tournament for 20 years if they prevail in a playoff against Serbia and then Scotland or Israel.

The country’s new home and away kits are linked by a overall ‘fire and ice’ theme that is inspired by the Norwegian natural beauty. The home shirt is a classic red that ‘smoulders’ like fire, while the patterned blue and white away jersey draws cues from glacial landscapes.

Turkey

The Turkey jerseys for Euro 2020 focus on national pride, with both home and away featuring an enlarged crescent and star in the centre of the shirt, reflecting the national flag.

Turkey have reverted back to white as their home colour, often alternating between red over the years, with this new design featuring a red band across the chest.

The red away shirt follows the same design, but the horizontal band is a darker shade of red, with a white crescent and star on it.

Finland

The primary shirt Finland will be wearing at their first ever major international tournament next summer is heavily influenced by the white and blue national flag.

The off-centre Nordic cross features on a white base, fading from typical royal blue to a much darker blue for a modern interpretation of a particularly patriotic look.

Slovenia

Slovenia won’t be at Euro 2020 after failing to qualify, or even secure a playoff berth, but their fresh new home and away shirts will still be worn in UEFA Nations League action are extremely attractive.

The mountainous pattern is a common look on Slovenia jerseys, a nod to the Balkan country’s terrain and Alpine climate. Both shirts follow the same design template, with the home a combination of white and sky blue, while the away is green and darker blue.
