Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is being lined up by Stamford Bridge supremo Roman Abramovich should the London club fail lure their preffered managerial candidates to West London.

Pep Guardiola would be the fan’s choice and the ex-Barcelona boss knows all about working under pressure from his time with the Catalan giants, albeit a different kind of pressure. Question marks remain over whether Guardiola would be interested in the Stamford Bridge job where the board continuously meddle in managerial affairs. Abramovich would also face competition from Premier League champions Manchester City for the manager whilst Manchester United would also chase him if Sir Alex Ferguson decided his time was up.

Many Chelsea fans would also like to see a return of former club hero and self-proclaimed Special One Jose Mourinho but his exit from Real Madrid would be extremely unlikely even though the Spanish League champions trail Barcelona and even city Rivals Atletico Madrid in this season’s table so far.

Atletico’s current form is essentially down to the intelligent tactical deployment of Simeone and the goalscoring brilliance of Falcao. And Abramovich wants them both at Chelsea.

Diego Simeone, aged 42, has won 39 of his 56 games in charge of Atletico having drawn 8 and lost 9 and his abilities have been noted by Abramovich who will try to get his man should his initial targets rebuff his propositions.
