9 Legendary Players Who Have Assisted More Than They've Scored in the Premier League

Scoring less than you create is not a rarity in the Premier League, but some of the English top flight's most memorable performers took such a stat to a whole new level, taken from official statistics of the Premier League.

The following nine players all made at least 60 assists during their time in the Premier League, but could not quite match their numbers in making goals as they did in scoring them themselves...

9. Gareth Barry

Number of Premier League assists: 63

Number of Premier League goals: 52

Better known for stopping goals than making them, Premier League veteran Gareth Barry surprisingly has more assists than goals, considering he was the designated penalty taker for Aston Villa during his earlier years.

8. Ashley Young

Number of Premier League assists: 63

Number of Premier League goals: 44

The Manchester United winger has been utilised as a full-back for the past few years, which has prevented the one-time England regular from adding to his impressive haul of 44 assists in the top flight.

7. David Silva

Number of Premier League assists: 64

Number of Premier League goals: 39

City's Spanish magician has been the architect of most of their good football ever since he was signed from Valencia in the summer of 2010. Silva has only once reached double figures in a season in terms of goals scored, but his assist statistics are far better.

6. Darren Anderton

Number of Premier League assists: 68

Number of Premier League goals: 37

Unfairly given the reputation of 'sicknote', Darren Anderton's numbers speak for themselves. The former Spurs midfielder assisted 68 Premier League goals, putting him 12th on the all-time list.

5. James Milner

Number of Premier League assists: 75

Number of Premier League goals: 48

Milner features in the top 10 of overall Premier League assists, an impressive achievement for a player who has found himself all over the pitch. Now predominantly a left-back at Liverpool, Milner was used in a more advanced position for the likes of Leeds, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

4. David Beckham

Number of Premier League assists: 80

Number of Premier League goals: 62

This one makes sense. David Beckham was the pioneer of making crossing the ball an art form and he normally found a fellow Manchester United teammate to finish off his accurate passes.

3. Dennis Bergkamp

Number of Premier League assists: 94

Number of Premier League goals: 87

The fact that Dennis Bergkamp got more assists than goals during his decade-long stint with Arsenal only goes to show what kind of striker he was and, many would say, illustrates his genius even further.

2. Cesc Fabregas

Number of Premier League assists: 107

Number of Premier League goals: 48

Second on the all-time list and the highest current player, Cesc Fabregas has always prioritised giving teammates the opportunity to score goals over himself and if he stays at Chelsea for a few more years he may well surpass the overall leader.

1. Ryan Giggs

Number of Premier League assists: 162

Number of Premier League goals: 109

Having spent over 20 years in the Premier League, it's hardly surprising that Ryan Giggs holds a number of records. The leading assist maker had a hand in more goals than he actually scored himself, but still managed to break the century mark.
