Barcelona are set to make an offer of £80m for Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, the Mirror have reported.

The Catalan club have already seen a £72m bid rejected for the Brazilian international, but Liverpool could now be set for a battle to keep him at Anfield.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, however, has insisted that Coutinho will not be sold in similar circumstances to Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.

“With Suarez I was far away," the German coach said. “When the club sold Sterling I was maybe the last to know about it. So those situations have nothing to do with this one.

“We are approaching a very important moment and we want to get better. For this we have to keep our key players. So that’s the answer.”

Liverpool owners FSG have claimed that they are not willing to enter negotiations with Barcelona over a deal for Coutinho, who signed a new five-year deal last season.

Klopp added: “I can say 20 times, he is not for sale. If you ask the other question the other way and I say, there has been no assurance [from owners FSG], you make the story the other way. There is no story for me."

Following Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Leicester in the Premier League Asia Trophy final, Klopp stressed that Coutinho remains "comfortable" at the club.

"Everyone knows that Phil Coutinho is a key player for us,” he said. “I know that he feels completely more than fine, comfortable - whatever - in Liverpool. He loves the club."
