The Daily Express are reporting this morning that Arsene Wenger is set to make a double bid for Southampton's Virgil van Dijk and Celtic's Mousa Dembele.

The Gunners boss is reportedly weighing up a £45m bid for Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk, after the player missed out on a move to Liverpool earlier in the window.

Liverpool were favourites to sign the 26-year-old but had to stop all negotiations after The Saints made an official complaint to the FA about the way Liverpool approached Van Dijk.

The £45m figure is a massive increase on the £12m the Gunners could have paid for Van Dijk two years ago, but they stepped back and allowed him to go to Southampton from Celtic.

The Gunners are also said to be looking at one of Celtic's current best players, in the form of striker Mousa Dembele.

The 20-year-old Frenchman scored 32 goals in 48 appearances in his first season in Scotland, following his move from Fulham.

His form for Celtic has attracted a lot of attention, such that he has been valued at around £30m however Celtic could want even more for the player, as he still has three years left on his current contract.

Arsenal are looking to rebuild this summer after a poor season, which saw them miss out on Champions League football for the first time in 20 years.

However the London club could be set to lose Alexis Sanchez with the unhappy star linked with Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and Manchester City in recent weeks.

Despite Wenger wanting Sanchez to see out the remainder of his contract at Arsenal, with European giants prepared to pay upwards of £50m for the 28-year-old, who scored 30 goals for Arsenal last season, a move may still be sanctioned.

Even though Arsenal have already signed Lacazette, Arsene Wenger is thought to want more attacking reinforcement with Olivier Giroud supposedly also set to be departing this summer.

Wenger also believes that Dembele could replace Sanchez at the club, but he is also looking to boost his defence as he also prepares a bid for Southampton’s Holland international Virgil van Dijk.
