Southampton want to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer but have been put off by Spurs' £20m valuation.
Mauricio Pochettino's side are ready to sell the Austria international, who has struggled to cement a spot in the club's defence since joining from Cologne in a £4.3m move.
The impressive central partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen has meant Wimmer's opportunities have been limited over the last two seasons and he could be set to leave this summer, with the Mirror reporting that Southampton are interested in securing the 24-year-old's signature.
The Saints still have star man Virgil van Dijk on their books but the Netherlands international is widely expected to leave during the transfer window, with Liverpool out of the race and Chelsea and Manchester City both said to be monitoring the 25-year-old's situation.
However, the report claims Wimmer would be viewed as a potential partner for Van Dijk as opposed to a direct replacement, with Southampton confident of holding off any transfer approaches.
Southampton are also after a replacement for former captain Jose Fonte, who left the club in January to join Premier League rivals West Ham after a seven-year stay at the south coast side.
Southampton, currently managerless after parting ways with Claude Puel, believe no club will want to part with around £70m to buy Van Dijk, who still has five years left on his contract after agreeing new terms in May 2016.
