Spanish midfielder Alex Berenguer has edged closer to a move away from relegated club Osasuna, with the Spanish side already preparing for life in Spain's second division.

According to football-espana.net, Napoli are believed to be leading the chase for the 22-year-old winger and Radio Kiss Kiss' Napoli source, Marcello Calvano, has confirmed what the Osasuna Director of Sport has had to say on the matter during a recent conversation:

“I spoke to the Osasuna director of sport, Francisco Canal, and he told me that there will be important developments over the next few days in negotiations for Berenguer.”

“He can’t say any more, he told me, until the release clause is paid. He also confirmed what the player’s agent had described about the situation.”

The player's release clause is believed to be in the region of £9m but, according to the report, Osasuna are prepared to accept bids below that amount to get the player off their books.

It has been reported in Italy that after turning down a move to fellow Spanish side Athletic Bilbao, Berenguer [below left] has his heart on a move to Naples.

Despite a disappointing season for Osasuna as a whole, Berenguer still impressed out wide for Los Rojillos scoring his only goal of the season during his side's 1-0 victory against Deportivo Alaves.

The Pamplona native started his career at Osasuna but now has eyes for the bigger stage and the offer of Champions League football seems to be too good for the player to turn down.
