Liverpool are plotting a summer raid on Bundesliga over-performers RB Leipzig, with moves for £80m-rated duo Naby Keita and Timo Werner.

As reported in The Independent, the two are part of the club's five-man transfer shortlist for the summer, and Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the pair to Anfield, as part of a plan to rejuvenate and improve his squad, which will in all likelihood be competing in the Champions League next season

21-year-old Werner, the top scoring German in the Bundesliga, has fired an impressive 21 goals in 31 appearances this season. Most recently, he bagged two more goals in the thrilling 5-4 weekend loss to league champions Bayern Munich.

With the injury prone Daniel Sturridge clearly not fancied by Klopp and most possibly on the way out of Anfield this summer, the young German is viewed as an excellent replacement. His arrival would also allow Roberto Firmino to move into his preferred attacking midfield role.

22-year-old Keita meanwhile, has fast become one of Europe's most coveted young talents.

Playing at the midfield base of Ralph Hasenhüttl's imaginative 4-2-2-2 system, the Guinean has been at the heart of all that has been good for his club - combining a combative and rugged defensive style with attacking skill and impetus. He has also managed 8 goals and 7 assists so far this season.

Both players will be extremely difficult to pry away from the Red Bull arena this season, with RB having swept their way to second in their inaugural Bundesliga campaign, and preparing for an exciting Champions League run next season.
