Former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has revealed how his relationship with ex-boss Jose Mourinho changed for the worse during their time together in Spain.
Mourinho was dismissed as Real Madrid manager at the end of the 2012/13 season as his side failed to win a major trophy and the Portuguese appeared to have lost the entire dressing room by the end of the campaign.
There was a very evident falling out between Mourinho and Casillas just months after they had successfully regained the La Liga title together the season before. The Madrid goalkeeper spent the majority of the season on the bench despite his iconic status in Spain.
Recently speaking in a television interview on Movistar+ (via ESPN), Casillas revealed that his relationship with Mourinho turned sour as time went on.
"At the beginning there was a lot of connection, we interacted a lot, but in the end, there wasn't a very good feeling," he said.
"It's like a couple, at the beginning you are very much in love and then it is no longer enough."
Casillas never really recovered from the Mourinho saga as many Madrid fans believed that he was the main reason why Mourinho was shown the door.
When Ancelottti became the new man in charge, the Spaniard was only involved in Champions League matches as Diego López was chosen for La Liga games.
The iconic Spanish goalkeeper made a tearful exit from Madrid at the end of the 2014/15 season but he is now enjoying his football once again as Porto’s number one.
