Sassuolo midfielder, Lorenzo Pellegrini, has been linked with Roma and Juventus after an impressive season with the club and has done nothing by way of quashing links with the Italian giants.

The 20-year-old played for Roma at one stage in his career, performing very well for the youth side, before making the €1.25m move to Sassuolo in 2015.

In their most recent Serie A fixture, Sassuolo were on the wrong end of a 3-1 result against Roma, with Pellegrini telling reporters after the game "You start off as a youngster and without realising it you find your name linked with the best in the league," according to Football Italia.

"In January, Roma made an attempt to sign me, but Sassuolo did not want to sell me. It was the right decision, it was unfair to leave at that time. I know that if I do well I might have a choice to make in June.

"Roma? At the end of the match [Daniele] De Rossi greeted me. We'll see," Pellegrini concluded.

The win kept Roma in second place, eight points behind Juventus, who are also said to be considering a move for the midfielder. Having sold Paul Pogba and replaced him with Miralem Pjanic, there is no urgent need for a midfielder at Il Bianconeri right now.

However, when a highly-rated central midfielder who looks as comfortable in attacking positions as he does in defensive ones becomes available, there is rarely a shortage of bidders.

Unfortunately for Juventus and Sassuolo though, Pellegrini is said to have an €8m buy-back clause in his contract which only Roma can activate from June 2017.

The midfielder has racked up six goals and four assists in his 23 appearances so far this season as well as some impressive defensive displays, making Roma interested in wrapping up a deal as soon as possible for one of the hottest prospects in Italian football at the moment.
