At the first sniff of danger, Neuer will explode from his penalty area and snuff it out.
As a result, he's actually winning the ball more often than the defenders in front of him. And not just Bayern Munich defenders, but any Bundesliga players from any other club.
An impressive stat from Whoscored can reveal that Neuer has won the ball 342 times in the defensive third over the last four seasons, more than anyone else in the division.
It is a super-charged notion of the 'sweeper keeper' that has made him so valuable to Bayern and so highly respected among the goalkeeping elite.

Despite trailing RB Leipzig earlier in the season, Bayern are back top of the Bundesliga and on course to claim a fifth straight title after extending their lead over the upstarts from former East Germany to 13 points at the weekend with only nine games of 2016/17 left to play.
Neuer has conceded just 13 league goals all season. To put that into context, the next best defensive record belong to Hoffenheim who have conceded almost double that, but still an impressively stingy 25 goals in 25 games.
