Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has revealed that other clubs have shown an interest in wantaway midfielder Jordan Veretout, but he could be looking to keep him at Aston Villa a little longer, report Read Aston Villa.
After spending a season out on loan at Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne, Veretout is set to return to Villa park in the summer, but failing to make an impact in England he could be looking for a permanent move sparking interest from other clubs.
Xia confirmed this in a Tweet where he also expressed that Villa should maybe “Persuade JV [Jordan Veretout] back [to] Villa next season.” This also seemingly confirming the midfielders hesitation in returning to his current club.
Even some clubs offered interest, maybe we should persuade JV back Villa next season? https://t.co/fCyKzpYqro— Dr. Tony Xia (@Dr_TonyXia) March 19, 2017
It was reported back in December that Juventus were interested in signing the former Nantes player and were offered the opportunity to make a deal in the summer which they never took up.
Last month reports in France were claiming that he was enjoying his time with Saint Etienne with the suggestion being that he would like to remain with the side on a permanent basis.
Scoring and assisting three times in 27 league appearances, Veretout has been an intricate part in the side. Compared to his five assists and no goals in 25 league appearances for Aston Villa last season it is clear that he is more comfortable in the current set up.
Steve Bruce brought in several other central midfielders in January leaving little room for Veretout as well as ruling out another loan move, but with three years left on his contract, Villa could look to recover a significant amount of the £7m they spent on the midfielder.
