Huddersfield midfielder Jonathan Hogg suffered a horrific neck injury in the Terriers' trip to Bristol City, causing 14 minutes stoppage time in the first half, as reported by The Sun.

After just eight minutes, Hogg appeared to collide fairly innocuously with teammate Mark Hudson but then fell to the floor clutching the back of his neck as his colleagues urgently waved on medical staff.

David Wagner even ran onto the pitch to check on his player's condition, causing even more concern for viewers. Hogg was eventually replaced by Phillip Billing.

Initial fears over his condition were eased as Sky Sports confirmed that the midfielder was "conscious and talking" in the dressing room.

The 28-year-old was then taken to a hospital near Ashton Gate where he underwent precautionary scans and X-Rays. Fortunately, the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Wagner's high-flying Terriers seemed hurt throughout the game by the incident as they surprisingly lost 4-0 to an out-of-form Bristol City side.

Lee Tomlin opened the scoring before Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham added a second in first-half injury time to take his tally to 19 league goals for the season.

Centre-back Aden Flint added a third with David Cotterill scoring a penalty late on to seal an emphatic win.

Wagner said after the game that he felt the injury to Hogg had an effect on their overall performance.

He said: "I'm unsure if the situation with Jonathan Hogg caused us maybe mental some problems.

"[It] Was not easy to see how he went off the grass but everything shouldn’t be an excuse at the end."
