Roy Hodgson: Jack Wilshere Is Still Ahead of Eric Dier Despite Injury Problems

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that Arsenal's Jack Wilshere is above Tottenham's Eric Dier in the pecking order for a place in England's Euro 2016 midfield.

Wilshre hasn't played a competitive game of football since last season after fracturing his fibula in August, however despite his lack of playing time Hodgson still believes the 24-year old is a prime candidate to start in England's midfield this summer.

Eric Dier has impressed at Tottenham this season for the defensive qualities he brings to Spurs' midfield. Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater is another consideration after a stunning season for The Foxes, but Hodgson still believes Wilshire is at the top of the pecking order.

"Dier did it against France, that's for sure, and does it for Tottenham," said Hodgson

"I've been very impressed so have called him up with Drinkwater, who does a similar job for Leicester City.

"They're still in the shadow of Jack Wilshere, who did so well for us before his injury. If all three were available for the Euros, that'd be a nice headache because there might not be space for all three."

Dier is expected to start for England in Saturday's international friendly against arch-rivals Germany, while Wilshire continues to progress back to full-match fitness after missing the entire season for the Gunners.
